Rehydrate the Earth: Small Scale Passive Rainwater Harvesting
January 9, 2016 @ 9:00 am - January 10, 2016 @ 5:00 pm$115.00
Come join us for a hands-on weekend that will teach you vital skills and information for small scale, passive rainwater harvesting appropriate for very small lots, big rambling back yards and significant acreage. Passive rainwater harvesting is a simple and effective method for rehydrating landscapes on many scales, bringing myriad additional benefits to the ecosystem.
Taught by Lydia Neilsen, this will be a fun and practical permaculture workshop designed to beat the drought and help the planet through infiltrating water back into the earth. On Saturday we will cover principles, design and layout of human-scale earthworks with multiple functions including passive rainwater harvesting, reducing erosion and flooding, supporting vegetation and creating wildlife habitat. On Sunday we will continue our learning with the implementation of our design including basic drip irrigation set-up to maintain landscape vitality with very low water use through the dryest months.
Our site for the weekend is a beautiful 1/4 acre property in the Seabright neighborhood. The yard is mostly flat with many existing trees and garden beds, a large chicken coop, firepit/hangout space and children’s play area.
The course costs $115 for each day or $200 for the entire weekend and includes two delicious organic locally sourced lunches. Register now for one or both days.
